Georgia Taylor-Brown is not only one of Britain’s most successful triathletes, but also one of the most admired and loved. But her bubbly, girl-next-door personality belies a career and life of ups and downs, of which arguably the last 18 months have been the most testing, including an oppressive domestic situation and a recent eight-month hiatus from racing due to a calf tear injury and then surgery.
After all the agony, she was to return at March’s World Triathlon Championship Series opener in Abu Dhabi. Unfortunately, and incredibly, the race was cancelled due to forecasted Biblical rain. “I think we all need a hug right now,” Taylor-Brown posted on Instagram after the pronouncement. Hugs and love from friends, family and the triathlon community has, as Taylor-Brown would admit, helped her navigate extremely rough seas. But now she’s looking for a smooth Olympic swim in the River Seine on Wednesday 31 July 2024…

Taylor-Brown’s nothing if not stubborn. She’s also experienced. It’s a potent combination that’llBritain’s mixed relay team. They were incredible performances from the Leeds-based athlete, especially as she’d overcome another injury just 11 weeks out from the Olympics. A year earlier, she’d also won the World Triathlon Championship Series, and then went onto dominate Super League Triathlon -now supertri – winning back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. Her chances of becoming the first British women to win Olympic gold looked strong. It seemed Taylor-Brown could do no wrong.
