By the mid-1950s Ford had introduced two completely new designs in the Consul/Zephyr and 100E ranges, but a car manufacturer can never rest on its laurels. The Consul and Zephyr would grow into the Mk2 models, but by 1956 Ford was already thinking in terms of a more radical replacement for the 100E, one that would signal a totally new styling direction for the company. In 1959, this emerged as the new 105E Anglia, complete with a sloping bonnet as a nod towards aerodynamics, but really all eyes were on that reverse-rake rear screen, chosen to offer rear seat passengers more headroom.
