Millions of raccoons fall victim to conventional trap sets like the water pocket and flat set every year. For the trapper who wants to use a 1½ coilspring at only one or two different set types, I cannot fault him. But, I like to play around a bit and experiment, and sometimes a situation calls for a different set than what I would normally use.
Most of my catches come from a water pocket or dog-proof set, but I have five other sets in my bag of tricks that I like to employ from time to time. Without these I am sure that my 'coon catch would not have the numbers that it does.
SHINY-PAN SET
This is one of the easiest sets to make. This set takes nothing more than an inch or two of water, a 1½ coilspring and a piece of aluminum foil.
