FOODWASTE WARRIORS – PART TWO HOW YOU CAN BE THE CHANGE

WELCOME back! In the previous issue, we look at Australia’s big problem with food waste. We throw out about 300kg of food waste per person, every year – enough to fill up 13,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Wasting all of the energy and water it takes to grow, harvest, transport and package the food. And even worse, that food in landfill rots, producing methane gas.

Food waste accounts for more than five per cent of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the impact of climate change. It sounds scary but we know that every single people . . . including
