FROM THEHEART
As a self-confessed sentimental Clutter Queen, I would struggle to get rid of some of the things on my coffee table. So many of the ornaments in my house are gifts friends have made for me.
Very precious to me – but they certainly aren’t going to fetch huge amounts at a Sotheby’s auction. They’re presents from special people. People with whom I have walked some distance already. And hopefully will walk with for some time to come.
I gaze at the ‘finds’ in front of me on the table. A gleaming red bowl catches my eye. It’s the work of my ‘buchu friend’, as I call her. She never sends anyone home without a few cuttings of buchu from her garden. That’s Laura. She is a skilled potter.
The same Laura, who had fun in the Libertas choir next to me, is also fond of stones. When she walks in the veld and sees a rocky outcrop where the geckos run, she picks up a pebble and gives it away. One of those pink stones sits on my bookshelf.
Where do I start talking about all the tins, boxes, cushions, art and other things that I have received from friends over the years?
