TRAWLER-YACHT POWER

Larger trawler yachts, especially those used for extended passage-making, require diesels that are up to the job. But in recent years I've read reviews on some trawler yachts that are powered by engines that have only light duty ratings of up to 1000 hours of usage per year — that translates to less than 20 hours a week, which is inadequate for extended voyaging.

One such light duty engine installed in trawler yachts is the MAN I6-800, which would be far better installed in planing hulls. This 12.4L straight six weighs only 1200kg, to which has to be added around 200kg for a suitable gear
