Desperately trying to breastfeed my newborn son Thomas, I knew something was wrong.
It was December 1995, he was only hours old, but he had trouble suckling.
Nothing like my older son Max, then 2.
‘Can a doctor look at him?’ I asked the midwives.
I knew lots of babies had trouble breastfeeding to begin with, but my mother’s intuition was screaming at me, telling me this was something more.
Doctors did tests and within days, Thomas had been diagnosed with a rare chromosomal condition, DiGeorge syndrome.
It could cause a number of problems including learning delays, feeding
