The first thing I noticed: The light! My flight landed in Cairo in the early hours of the morning, and the drive through the city’s Ring Road was pure magic. The Ring Road freeway is elevated and often comes face-to-face with apartment buildings several floors up. It felt surprisingly intimate to watch Cairo’s residents go out and greet the sun.
