Making history

MSL – Motorcycle Sport & Leisure – is a bit of an institution among bike magazines. Countless other titles have come and gone in the 60 years since issue one hit the newstands, yet our favourite monthly has always been there, sometimes hanging on by the skin of its teeth, but always surviving. Critics of Motorcycle Sport (as it then was) in the old days would have called it conservative, clubby and, in a memorable phrase from Mark Williams of Bike magazine, “catering well for the retired vicar market”.
