“Following medical advice to rest for a few days, The Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits.”

This was the message I received from a Buckingham Palace spokesman as The Weekly was going to press, and while further investigation underlined that concern and conjecture about the overnight stay was neither necessary nor appropriate, the issue wasn’t so much about HM’s health but why the Palace had not told us at the time.
