Before COVID-19, tourism was one of the fastest growing industries with 1,2 billion travellers in 2019. The pandemic has caused a profound and unpredicted outcome and changed our perceptions. We have been presented with a new set of challenges of how, when and where to go for our travels, while consciously evaluating and monitoring the footprints we leave behind.

In the past, our travels were casual, sometimes even carefree events, frequently with minimal forward planning. This is in stark contrast to our actions on other facets of our daily routines. For example, whenever we buy a new house, farm or car, we thoroughly research all options and performances: “Can it do what it is supposed to do? Is it safe? Are there negatives? Is it
