“Pecan trees love the sun.”
Pecan trees love the sun and only produce nuts where direct sunlight reaches the leaves and branches during the growing season. This means that most nuts are produced on the outside of the tree canopy.
To maximise yield in a pecan orchard, the surface area that can be reached by direct sunlight must thus be maximised.
