Isn’t it time we all slowed down?

“THIS COMPUTER of yours is so slow!” someone said to me recently, having turfed me out of my chair and taken over.

Strange. I’d always thought my machine was pretty nifty. Slow was a word you could have applied to the first machine I pecked at on my first day at work (a battered Underwood typewriter that sounded like a malfunctioning machine gun).

By slow, our visitor meant that they’d had to wait an absolute eternity – perhaps all of 20 seconds -for my pride and joy to flicker into action.

This particular someone was much younger than me, and so could be forgiven for not knowing what slow really is – or to be unaware that my generation had once enjoyed life at a slower pace.
