Introduction
Why? A Childs Plea! Is a thought provoking, truly inspirational and provocative narrative short story that is described thru the mind’s eye of a child! This short story address's the effects that divorce has on a child. Michael relives the events taken place that lead up to that life changing event of those 17 days of November of 1993!
In the United States alone during 2010 the divorce rate was 4.95 per every 1,000 people. Also during 2010 there was an average of 3.18 children per household. What this equates to is that over 1 million children will suffer each year due to divorce.
There is mounting evidence that these children will suffer physically, emotionally and financially and that these effects will even affect their future generations. The divorce of parents actually tears apart at the very fabric of our American Society.
It should be of no surprise then to find that divorce is having such a profound effect on our society! This story is based on actual events concerning these two young boys and two girls who were suffering the emotional breakdown caused by their parents divorce!
Chapter 1
How It All Began
While I sat there remembering, I soon felt flushed with mixed emotions. What had lead up to that year of nineteen ninety three is still…in many ways very difficult for me to recall! In fact, it was a time in my life that in a many ways…I would prefer too just forget. Maybe if I could, I would just chalk it up to a bad dream that has haunted me all these years!
Yes what happened to us back then so many years ago still has the power to bring me to my knees, especially at times when I’m feeling very low. People say it gets better with time and as just a small child I would in some ways forget. To one extent they are right, but if not for those seventeen days of November nineteen ninety three, I feel that my adult life today would have been in shambles!
The despondency of my family back then has had a profound effect on me mentally and emotionally! However what took place in that November in 1993, I would have to say was one of the most remarkable things that has ever happen to me and my family. But before I can tell you about that I need to explain to you the events that led up to that turning point in our lives.
Looking back I would have to say as I vividly remember those years leading up November 1993 there is one day in particular stands out in the back of my mind.
(Michaels mind now travels back to his childhood, we follow as this young six year old child now narrates what unfolded so long ago)
As I remember it was a cold and wet rainy day, in fact it seemed to be one of the worst storms of that year. Like I said, the weather was pretty bad that day…it must have been somewhere in the low sixties. The weatherman on the television said that the forecast for the tropical weather pattern was to be very severe and it called for lots of torrential downpours.
Now as I sat there, looking out of our front-room window watching the cars drive by on that very rainy day. I was totally amazed at how fast our normally dry front-yard had become a tidal pool of sorts. You see we lived on a corner lot and as usual whenever there was a down pour of rain the water would back up the storm-drain causing flooding. Then eventually that would cause the water to cover just about half of our front-yard and driveway.
On this one particular day, I kept myself entertained by just watching to see how high the cascade of water would get as the cars drove thru it. While I watched, I was just astounded at the different shapes and sizes of the water wings that the passing vehicles made as they were running thru the tidal pool of water. It was very obvious to everyone that I was bored because
