PATIENT BLACK FERN PREPARED TO WAIT TO PLAY RUGBY WORLD CUP AT HOME

When Te Kura Ngata-Aerengamate stands at the front of the Black Ferns haka and her full throated words “Ko nga Mamaku o Aotearoa, Kia Mau” echo around the stadium, she’s telling her team it’s time; time to go to work and to let the opposition know they’re coming for them.

“Black Ferns of New Zealand: be ready” is what the call translates to but they’re words the veteran hooker could almost apply exclusively to herself. It seems “TK”, as she’s known by many, has been ready for this moment for her entire career.

Behind an easy going, effervescent personality is a tale of patience and perseverance; a slow burn of a rugby pathway that could ultimately lead her to playing a key part in New Zealand’s World Cup defence. Of course the test of her patience will now go on a little longer
