The Swindle System

GERALD SWINDLE CLOSED the 2021 Bassmaster Elite Series season on a good note, finishing 19th in the Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings and easily qualifying for his 19th Bassmaster Classic. But how do you carry that note to the next season, especially when there’s almost a seven-month gap between the last Elite Series event of 2021 and the first one in 2022?

“That’s a lot of time to ice the kicker,” said Swindle, employing a reference to football coaches calling time-outs to make opposing field goal kickers ponder the magnitude of the moment. “You think too much. You start questioning, ‘Was I that good or was I just lucky?’”
