Fruitcake
FRUITCAKES undoubtedly conjure up thoughts of Christmas. For some, it’s sweet memories of the classic cake like mama used to make with colorful bits of candied and dried fruits, plenty of spices, a generous pour of alcohol brushed on or added to the batter, and a dusting of sugar or drizzle of glaze. For others, however, this cake is known as a less than welcome gift at the holidays and the last dish to be eaten up on the dessert table. To each their own, but we think this time-honored cake deserves to be celebrated.
The earliest roots of fruitcake can be found in ancient Rome with a cake made from barley, pomegranate seeds, nuts, and raisins. But the modern fruitcake is more akin to various versions of fruited cakes that entered the scene in
