The fishing action had slowed a bit, so I decided to change things up.
I tied on a large foam grasshopper imitation—not a conventional fly choice for the time of year. It was well past prime-time-hopper season, but I’m a big believer that trout retain muscle memory—or sometimes they’re just hungry for a big meal. I skated the grasshopper across a slick pool about 25 feet downstream.
