MINI MARCOS MAN POLLEY TAKES GLORY

Sam Polley scored one of the weekend’s most popular wins when he took Swinging Sixties Group 1 honours in his Mini Marcos.

According to Polley, it’s nothing like driving a Mini, and he had no trouble passing the Mini of Ralph and Charlie Budd and fellowA-series-powered Ian Staines, driving an MG Midget. The Budds were third, behind Tim Cairns in a Frogeye Sprite, who had kept with the leaders for most of the race.

Group 2 was won by Steve Hodges in his Lotus Seven. He had been running a lonely second until the Triumph TR6 of TCR specialist Josh Files pulled out with brake problems.

Stuart Daburn won both Modern and Future Classics, driving a TVR Tuscan. The Future race was a straightforward lights-to-flag victory, but Karl Cattliff’s BMW M3 proved quicker in the Modern event, even surviving a single-lap sprint to the end after a safety car. He was later penalised though for taking a short pitstop and dropped to fifth. The safety car has been out for the retrieval of Dave Griffin’s BMW M3 from the Bombhole.

Adam Brown (VauxhallAstra) could have been seen as taking the Tin Tops crown by default,
