EYES ARE OFTEN referred to as “the windows to the soul”. Iridology is the method of assessing horse health by analysing the fibre structure and colour of the iris of the eye. Each part of the horse’s body is mapped out on well defined areas of the iris (see box, p72), which enables the horse’s constitution to be assessed, showing organ strengths and weaknesses, as well as the inherited make-up of the horse. However, it is important to note that there is no scientific evidence for iridology.
Iridology is a non-invasive technique using a torch, a magnifying glass and a camera to look into the iris of your horse’s eyes. Most horses don’t mind this and it is helpful if I can see them in a stable or a field shelter
