Change is Coming

As you begin to wade into the unknown waters of the ultrarunning world, you may wonder how this new activity will change your current lifestyle. Will it affect your family life? Your relationships? Your food budget? If you haven’t stopped to wonder, listen up.

Most ultras are on trails and if you haven’t had a chance to race on dirt, your first wake-up call will likely be how long it takes relative to running on roads. That 20-mile training run you used to do on an early Saturday morning (and be home in time for brunch), to the trailhead, which is usually several miles away. While this isn’t necessarily a big deal, many of us have family obligations, so spending extra time away on the weekend is something the whole family needs to agree with.
