Panting, my eyes darted around the hospital room as I tried to spot my fiancé, Johnny, 36. ‘Where is he?’ I gasped desperately. It was 10 September 2019
and I had just gone into labour at Furness General Hospital.
We were both told that I was a long way off from giving birth, so Johnny could go out and have a cigarette.
But by the time he got back, I was well on my way.
‘You’re going to need to get on with this,’ the midwife said, with urgency in her eyes.
‘I’m trying,’ I yelled as I gave another massive push.
Finally, little Savannah was born, weighing an unexpectedly tiny 5lb 3oz.
