Rabbits And Dragons
IT WAS the first weekend in March and, as is tradition, the Rabbitohs play the Dragons in the NRL pre-season Charity Shield. In 2020 the Charity Shield was played at Glen Willow Oval, Mudgee. My brother Benj and I headed west to Mudgee on a Friday, later that day to be joined by Benj’s middle son, Sam.
Mudgee was buzzing with Rabbitohs and Dragons fans wandering around town in their respective team jerseys. There was a house in town that resembled a shrine dedicated to the Rabbitohs. They say that NRL is a form of religion and this shrine certainly felt holy!
After a quick grocery shop, Benj and I headed out to the property. We quickly unloaded our gear into the woolshed and headed out for an afternoon hunt. We scouted around the gullies and blackberry choked creeks that are riddled with rabbit warrens. It was still early afternoon, so there was no activity.
