FERAL pigs would have to be our most popular game animal here in Australia. Although they are found in varying numbers across all mainland states and territories it is no secret that some of the best numbers, and biggest boars, come from the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland. These are very different environments to what most southern hunters are used to, so a bit of research on strategies and techniques can go a long way in helping you have a successful hunt if you make that long trip north. A mainstay of northern pig hunters is walking drying watercourses late in the dry. These creeks are attractive bedding areas for pigs as they offer water, shade, and cool soft earth or sand to make beds in.
