Standing at the front of the pack, taking deep breaths, keeping warm and waiting for the gun to go off in the middle of the night are two of Australia’s greatest modern-day ultra runners. They’re ready to hit the ground running in one of Western Australia’s fastest and flattest courses: the 100km Australia Day Ultra.
Anyone participating, volunteering or supporting across the weekend of 18 January, 2020, in the small lakeside town of Australind would have witnessed ultra runners Michael Hooker and Margaret Hadley take off from the start line to claim first placings for both male and female – Michael with an official time of 7:27:03, and Margie with 9:08:24.
