“Success in the really long distances is definitely a mental strength and stamina battle,” says next-level ultra-marathoner Courtney Dauwalter. “The only way I have found to work to develop this is by entering more really long races and putting it to the test.”
Dauwalter was in New Zealand earlier this year to run Tarawera, although 100 kilometres may be just a blip on her radar nowadays.
“For me, each time I do a long race, new variables and problems present themselves and I am hoping that being exposed to and having to work through these situations will help grow my mental strength.”
