Feel open and uplifted

If the past year has left you feeling weary and closed off from the world, this practice is for you. I’ve chosen a series of backbends for this month’s sequence as I find them particularly energising.

As the name suggests, backbends are poses that encourage us to stretch through the chest, while bending a little into the spine. These poses can help to counteract that ‘closed off’ feeling by helping us to open across the heart space. They’re also wonderfully invigorating and may be helpful if you need a little pick-me-up in the day.
