The winter months were challenging for many people, with the COVID-19 virus continuing to impact communities around the world. In the midst of this dire season, the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans were released, and the timing really couldn’t have been better. Collectively, we all may need a little refreshing of our eating habits, and the guidelines provide some science-based suggestions for how we can make the most of our next meal or snack. This column explores how the new guidelines impact the three s’s—sugar, sodium and sustenance—and provides some tips on making the most of the summer harvest.
