Unlike many cocktail recipes, whose origins are debated or simply lost in the mists of time, the invention of the Daiquiri is well documented and undisputed. This deliciously simple mix of rum, lime juice and sugar was invented in Cuba by American engineer Jennings Cox, who in 1898 was living in the small town of Daiquiri, overseeing local iron-ore mining operations. Experimenting with the local ingredients he had to hand and his monthly Bacardi Carta Blanca ration, Cox mixed up the first Daiquiri, recording the original recipe in his diary. For a more
