In 1590, a man called George Bores began selling pamphlets in Fleet Street, London, entitled The mostIntended as entertainment, the pamphlets were translated from German into English, and told the grisly tale of a German man named Peter Stumpp, who was thought to have murdered – and eaten – dozens of people during a 25-year reign of terror.
