Seasonal focus

January is a time for looking forward and planning new ideas in the garden for the year ahead; to prepare beds and borders, when the weather permits, and choose plants and seeds for your new planting schemes.

Do, however, also take time to enjoy the details of a winter garden: birds foraging on the last of the flamboyant berries; bare branches and stems forming a skeletal tracery against the sky; plants falling into dormancy; tones of russet, fawn and umber all around, and nature’s icing sugar frosting. These are all sights to savour.
