1 FAIRYTALE WEDDING
As the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge kissed on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on 29 April 2011, watched by millions around the world, a new royal star was born.
A short time earlier, Kate Middleton had walked up the aisle of Westminster Abbey to marry her Prince, looking beautifully regal in a bespoke Alexander McQueen gown by Sarah Burton – which sparked a global trend for lace wedding dresses – and a veil held in place by the Cartier Halo Tiara, on loan from the Queen. Prince William looked dapper in his scarlet Irish Guards uniform.
The couple said their vows as Her Majesty and other members of the family – as well as celebrities including Sir Elton John, David and Victoria Beckham and Joss Stone – looked on in delight.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds were greeted by cheering well-wishers as they left the abbey for a carriage procession to Buckingham Palace, where they celebrated their union with a lavish reception and began their new lives together.
