Grab and go cod

IF THERE IS ONE SPECIES THAT dominates winter fishing in Britain, then that species is cod. Normally targeted with big baits and heavy tackle, gruelling conditions are braved by the serious seekers of the nation’s favourite fish.

The light rock fishing enthusiast need not be left out of this chase for this most iconic of winter species. As the weather gets colder, my attention turns primarily to deep water, be that docks and harbours or the Scottish sea lochs. These sheltered deep-water areas continue to fish well and are less affected by weather conditions. They also are prime marks for the run of winter codling.
