Death at day care

It was a normal afternoon in March 2014, as Pallavi Macharla, 39, looked after a group of energetic toddlers and snoozing babies at the day-care centre she ran from her home in Massachusetts, USA.

Parents trusted Pallavi with their kids. Once a medical doctor in her native India, she’d stopped practising when she’d moved to America with her husband.

Now, she dedicated her life to raising her own two children and then turned her devotion to other kids, too, launching her childcare business.

One of the babies she looked after was 6-monthold
