Former drug addict, failed actor, environmentalist and self-styled “kind warrior”, Treadwell would pitch camp in the Alaskan wilderness of Katmai, unarmed even with pepper spray, and flagrantly break National Park Service laws to bring himself hazardously close to the creatures he loved.
