It’s not unusual for British authors to receive comments from readers across the pond querying some of the British/English words used. The obvious ones are lift versus elevator, pavement versus sidewalk, glasses rather than eyeglasses and trousers versus pants, just to name a few.
This vexes many new writers starting out, not so much about the differences, but questioning what they should do if they think their work is going to sell in the US.
