Walk for life
You know higher daily step counts are good for your wellbeing but, studied the data of people aged 40 and over. Around 4,800 participants wore accelerometers, which measure increase in speed, for up to seven days, and researchers followed up their mortality rates nine-to-12 years later. The results showed that after adjusting for body mass index, health status and behavioural risk factors, those who walked 8,000 steps had a 51 per cent lower risk of death from all causes, compared to those who only took 4,000 steps, while taking 12,000 steps led to a 65 per cent lower risk of death. Surprisingly, the intensity of the steps made no difference to the results.
