‘We wanted to live in a house that would embody the philosophy of an architect. We didn’t have many demands. We were ready to live in a small house. Fortunately, we were able to find a site in Seoul suited to our jobs in music and writing. All we wanted was somewhere safe and free from the dangers and pressures of the outside world. Our one specific demand, however, was to ensure that there was excellent water pressure’.
I’m working on a Nokbeon-dong House like a novelist edits a collection of stories by collating fragments of texts written in a notebook. Drawing together such a series is informed by a process of combining fragmented images and small sketches without producing a united whole. The fact that I’m free from the restrictions of beginning with a specific programme, enabling me to read the site and to create a new form, is an experiment that I’m also free conduct on myself.
