How to light your garden

If you are planning to introduce lighting in your garden there’s lots to think about: questions about where, how and what type of lighting sit alongside other considerations, from the practical and security-based, to light pollution, costs, installation, timeframes and sourcing.

Garden lighting falls into two distinct categories. First, there’s feature lighting, which is purely for visual pleasure and extends the interest of the garden. Secondly, there’s directional (or navigational) lighting. This is practical lighting that allows ease of use at dusk and over the winter months. When done well, both add to the sense of a well planned overall design.
