95 Scar of the Sea 2017 Block 11 Bien Nacido Vineyard Mount Eden Clone Chardonnay (Santa Maria Valley). Scratched lime peel, freshly sliced Valencia orange and a line of steely minerality make for an intriguing set of aromas that smell very alive and appealing on the nose of this bottling. The palate is wrapped in extreme tension and exuberant energy, offering light brushes of exotic lemon, Asian pear and cherimoya, all dusted with more savory sea salt. —M.K.
