HARIHARAN

Hariharan is a multiple National and Kerala State Film Award Winner. He won the Filmfare Best Director trophy for Parinayam (1994) and Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja (2009). His films are rooted in the milieu of Kerala and reflect the ethos of the region. They also offer a wider spectrum, critiquing the human condition. His films are praised for their varied content as well as for the depiction of complex human relationships. Multi-layered and meaningful, they have proved to be as popular with the masses as with the critics. His repertoire ranges from thrillers, whodunits, musicals, war films and historicals. His films were entertaining but carried a kernel of social reform. He’s revered across the world for his seminal work. His Sargam (1992) received a special honour at the Fukuoka and Swiss film festivals. He also won the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment for Sargam, the National Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues for Parinayam (1994) and the National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam for Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja (2009). His film Ennu Swantham Janakikutty was the inaugural film at the Korean film festival (2000). It also took part in the London film festival (2000).
