ALL ABOUT SNARES & CABLE RESTRAINTS PART I
The big dog coyote was hitting the end of the snare hard and chewing the cable intensely. I had to get a bullet in him before he chewed through the 1/16-inch snare cable that I’d set in the edge of the woodline for bobcats.
The coyote had worked a trench-style dirt hole from the side at the edge of the cornfield, which was set close to the snare. I’d missed him at the trap set, but he encountered one of the many snares that I had set in the area, and ended up in the fur shed anyway.
Unfortunately, it did not entangle as I’d intended, like a bobcat would have, and was still alive when I found it in the snare. Most of the snares that I’d set were in heavy brush, so entanglement was not an issue, but this snare was right on a trail where it entered the field. The coyote had chosen to chew instead of running around in a circle and getting into the brush nearby and getting wrapped up. Lesson learned in this situation.
