Whether one is a raccoon trapper, mink, otter or coyote trapper, the number one rule for a good catch is to have enough fur to trap before one begins.
Out West, our main furbearers are coyotes and bobcats. These critters are the ones that I focus on and what I target. It does no good to set traps, though, if there is not enough fur in the area to trap in the first place.
I try to keep a mental log of what I take every year out of all of my trapping grounds. For instance, in one area that consisted of 11,000 acres, I took 25 bobcats in one season. During
