THE CORE STRONGER FOR LONGER
The core muscles provide stability for all of your movements, especially around your hips, back, pelvis, abdominals and spine. Good core stability is like having a solid trunk (like a tree) so that your arms and legs are well supported and are able to function with a solid base to work off.
When the core muscles are functioning well they also play a vital role in absorbing shock from ground impact or load bearing to help protect our joints. A well-conditioned core can also significantly reduce the risk of injury and improve our performance on the hill. Naturally, as we age we develop degenerative changes, very often in the spine and around mobile joints such as the hips and knees. We are able to control and reduce some of these symptoms with appropriate core exercises and regular, intentional day-to-day movement.
We use our core muscles every day, getting out of bed, walking, opening doors, carrying children
