Known in the Afrikaans community as huiskok (home cook), Errieda says she has a special interest in food memories, traditions of the table and the power of food to bring people together. Share is the 10th title this Welgemoed-based recipe magpie and food writer has authored. “My passion, or obsession rather, for South African food has led to 10 cookbooks, which I am proud about and grateful for,” Errieda shares. And with good reason too: Share has already been crowned South Africa’s winner of the Food Heritage category in this year’s Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. This is the second Gourmand award for Errieda, the first one being for Huiskok, Glanskok [Home Cook, Glamour Cook] – which scooped a Gourmand award for South Africa in the Best Food Television Celebrity category in 2009 – a title she coauthored with SA’s food “evangelist” and culinary academy chef-patron, Francois Ferreira.
Working as a food content producer for several television shows, which include Kokkedoor on Afrikaans TV channel kykNET, Errieda says she spends most of her time “traipsing around off-the-beaten-track home kitchens on the lookout for local, unsung food heroes”. In addition, this determined foodie gathered over 40 000 shared recipes from 150 community cookbooks – before tackling the unenviable task of narrowing them down to 100 – in order to compile Share. “The cheery community cookbooks with their food-stained, dog-eared pages took over every
