Racing to return to Barbagallo?

The recent complete resurfacing of Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway may herald a return of motorcycle racing to the circuit. The entire 2.42km lap received a fresh coating of a compound called Stone Mastic Asphalt, which uses a finer mixture than the usual Dense Graded Asphalt and is said to be kinder to tyres. In addition to the resurfacing, a ‘Bus Stop’ chicane has been added to the track before Turn 3, specifically for motorcycle racing. This takes the direction of racing away from the notorious wall at Turn 3 before rejoining the main track for the long sweeping left hander up the hill. The track will be inspected by Motorcycling WA before a final decision is made on the return of motorcycle racing.
