CORONER MAKES RECOMMENDATIONS AND CRITICISES FISHERIES

The Coroner investigating the sinkings of the Queensland fishing vessels Cassandra (2016) and Dianne (2017), which resulted in eight deaths, has criticised the state’s fisheries authority when reporting his findings. Coroner David O'Connell’s inquest recommended:

• Emergency grab bags of necessary basic equipment to assist crew to exit a capsized vessel be located in the sleeping cabin and near the helm;

• Self-illuminating LED strip-lighting and Emergency Exit signs be encouraged
