WORKPLACE 2020: IT’S ALL ABOUT TRUST

Brian Kropp is the vice president of research for global research and advisory company Gartner’s HR practice and has developed a list of predictions and trends for United States workplaces for 2020.

It includes, for the first time, seeing more than 50 percent of [US] employees spending part of their work-week working remotely.

“As technology continues to improve and employees continue to demand more flexibility, companies will respond by offering more opportunities for employees to work remotely. In fact, in 2020, the ratio will flip to more than 50 percent of employees at least occasionally working remotely in a typical week,” he writes.

And flexible work is in demand from employees locally too, whether that be reduced hours, working from home or a nine-day fortnight.

Jane Kennelly, business director of Frog Recruitment in Auckland, told that the demand for more flexible work options is partly driven by employees wanting a sense of control over their lives.
