IT’S a plague of biblical proportions. Locusts are everywhere – on the ground, in trees, on roofs, crawling on window panes. And when they take off in a ravenous cloud they block out the sun, devouring everything in their path.
Locust swarms aren’t an unusual occurrence but the invasion currently raging through East Africa and bringing countries such as Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya to their knees is the worst to have hit the region in 25 years.
