Environmentally friendly resort

The eco-friendly ethos has to start with the resort itself having very little environmental impact, and we have continued to make improvements where and when possible. The resort is subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) every 3 months.

We decided to have as much of the resort as possible located 60 metres from the high tide line in order to ensure we had minimal impact on the sea turtle nesting beach in front of the resort and the seagrass beds in the shallows on which the green turtles feed.

Fresh water availability is an issue for all island-based resorts. We installed rainwater catchers on all of our buildings to ensure a self-sufficient water supply. This water supplies the taps, showers and toilets for our entire resort. We also have solar panels on the roof of each bungalow to heat the showers. Another major issue faced by all island-based resorts is waste-water management. We now have one of the best waste-water management systems money can buy, which produces fresh water that we use in the resort garden, which consists of native vegetation.

We also only use biodegradable cleaning products and provide five separate rubbish bins – for food, bottle, plastic, cans, paper and general waste. Our rubbish is stored in a large rubbish collection point near the start of the jetty, which is also free for the local community to use, before it
